The latest on Sting and his planned retirement match

We reported that the idea in WWE was to have Sting appear at the Raw after WrestleMania. We heard this from Sting’s side. Within WWE no one seems to know anything or the small circle that would know is not saying anything so they can keep it a surprise. Also, the other reason that they want to debut Sting sooner than later is so they can use him in WWE Network interview clips. It would kind of kill some of his hype if they just put him on the network in a Legends Roundtable or a Countdown show before his actual debut. Also, I am still hearing that the plan is to have Undertaker and Sting face off the night after WrestleMania and that would be the official start to the build for the match. Obviously, Sting and Taker would be off TV for several months after that. We also reported that the idea is to build the match as a “loser must retire” match.

Dave Meltzer is also reporting that the working idea is that Sting does one last match and then retires which jives with what we’ve been saying. Dave also is saying that the people at Wrestlecon are saying that Sting is not scheduled for WrestleMania or Raw the next day and he has a round trip ticket so he would be flying home after the convention. Of course, WWE would not want anything to leak out and the convention appearance is being done independent of WWE so if they wanted to have Sting fly in  for Raw they could easily get him there the morning or afternoon of the show and Sting lives in Texas so it’s a very short flight. If WWE wanted to keep things secret then Sting flying home after the convention would be the story they’d want to get out.
