The main event is set for WWE SummerSlam

The main event is now official for next month’s WWE SummerSlam pay-per-view. In the first segment of this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw, General Manager Kurt Angle announced that Brock Lesnar would be defending the WWE Universal Championship against Samoa Joe, Roman Reigns, and Braun Strowman in a Fatal 4-Way. It’s an unusual move because typically, they like to do singles matches for SummerSlam main events but after last week’s show, it was obvious that plans had changed from the previously planned Reigns vs. Lesnar match. Prior to that, the plans were for Lesnar vs. Strowman for SummerSlam.

Just a few weeks ago, the plan for the Joe vs. Lesnar feud was for it to be “one and done” and Joe was not in the main event plans for SummerSlam. Hopefully, WWE realized that Joe has been great in his feud with Lesnar and hopefully they see him as a top heel going forward.

Now, the question is who comes out of SummerSlam with the WWE Championship? As we noted before on the site, Reigns was originally supposed to face Lesnar at WrestleMania. Earlier today, we got a hint on potential plans for Reigns at WrestleMania. If you want to read more on who Reigns’ opponent for WrestleMania might be, then click here.
