The Miz talks working with The Rock and John Cena, losing his main event slot

WWE Superstar The Miz appeared on this week's episode of WWE's The Bump. The former SmackDown Tag Team Champion would discuss a number of topics on the WWE Network show, including his main event run that culminated at WrestleMania 27. Miz would headline that show against John Cena, with heavy involvement from The Rock, who attacked Cena to allow Miz to win the match and retain his WWE Championship.

Later that year Miz would lose the title and be moved down the card, seemingly losing his main event status. "I look at it and I go, I did everything I could in that moment to elevate myself, elevate the title" The Miz would begin. "I mean I did it all, it was incredible. I'm working the face of the company, John Cena, I'm working with The Rock, who in the Attitude Era I thought the world of. I still do think the world of him, and I think he is just a special talent."

Miz would elaborate further, talking about how he was 'new' in the main event scene at the time. "And here I am, pretty new by the way. I'm a new up and coming guy and I need to make a statement, need to make an impact. I felt like I did, and I feel like I've continued to do that. Working with John Cena and The Rock showed me what I needed to do to be better."

Mike Mizanin would then move onto how it felt losing his main event status and moving 'down' the card. "And then, losing the title and getting out of the main event area for a while? It made me realise 'wow, it just doesn't stay there, you have to keep working as hard if not harder once you're there on top.' People think you can relax and sit back? No I didn't do that, but you have to work even harder than you did to stay at that level."

As a member of the SmackDown roster The Miz has reunited with his longtime tag team partner John Morrison and the pair have been one of the highlights of the Friday night show. Although the tag team scene in WWE is not considered the 'main event,' Miz believes that he is still performing at the top level. "That's where I'm at right now. I feel like I'm at the top level, like, I don't think anyone can match me in the ring. Now you may be able to debate me, everyone may be able to debate me but in my mind, in my head? I know my knowledge, and what I bring to the table in WWE and I don't think there's anyone that can compare to me."

In terms of tenured Superstars in WWE, The Miz is certainly up there in terms of experience and breadth of quality in terms of promo ability and matches. Whether he will get another shot at the main event and WWE or Universal Championship remains to be seen.
