As AEW approaches the new year, they’re also getting closer to the return of one of its biggest stars.
A week ago on AEW Dynamite, a new hype video for Omega’s return was shown. Excalibur stated, “We hope to see him back in AEW very soon.” Omega, who has not wrestled since December 2023 after being diagnosed with diverticulitis and undergoing surgery, is returning to in-ring action when he takes on Gabe Kidd at Wrestle Dynasty on January 5.
Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select reported that Omega was planned for an AEW return before he left for Japan for Wrestle Dynasty. They were told Omega is supposed to leave for Japan either January 1 or 2 and will be around for Wrestle Kingdom.
Omega hasn’t been announced for the show. Fightful previously reported that his return was expected by Saturday’s Worlds End PPV event. This week, they’ve heard the active plan is for him to be at the show. However, it’s unclear in what capacity that would be.
Omega has not regularly been on the road with AEW this year due to diverticulitis.
