Vin Diesel and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson had a beef with each other while filming the “The Fate of The Furious” movie in 2016.
It all started when The Rock had an issue with Diesel’s work ethic and showing up late to set so The Rock went to Instagram to lash out at Diesel although Johnson did not mention Diesel by name. At the time, it was reported that the post led to a heated exchange between the two in Johnson’s trailer on set. They later met privately several times and patched things up.
In a new interview with Vanity Fair, The Rock opened up on the situation. He started off by noting that he wanted to forgo drama because that was what he thought was the best thing to do for everybody.
Regarding what provoked him to get to the point where he lashed out, The Rock stated, “Nothing specific happened, just the same old s**t. And that just wasn’t my best day [because I] chose to share it. It caused a firestorm.”
The Rock noted that every single crew member thanked him for what he said, but he admits he shouldn’t have shared that public as it goes against his DNA.
“And I take care of that kind of bulls**t away from the public. They don’t need to know that. That’s why I say it wasn’t my best day.”
Regarding whether he regrets what he said, The Rock stated, “No, I meant what I said. For sure. I mean what I say when I say it. But to express it publicly was not the right thing to do.”
The Rock recalled the meeting and noted that it wasn’t a peaceful meeting, but it was a meeting of clarity. When he came out of the meeting, he felt that it became “crystal clear that we are two separate ends of the spectrum and agreed to leave it there. [We are] philosophically two different people, and we approach the business of moviemaking in two very different ways.”
He said that he views his philosophy about going to work that crew and cast members, as well as the studio, are equal partners. He also thinks you should treat those parts with respect and with humility.
The Rock ended by stating that he didn’t come from a world of theater and was raised in a different culture and environment. When he does a project, he gives it his all.
The Rock wasn’t featured in the latest “Fast & Furious” movie, “F9,” that was released earlier this year. However, John Cena was brought on to be Diesel’s brother in the franchise.
