The Rock and Vice working on a docuseries on the ‘mysterious demise’ of WCW

Deadline published a story today about additions to the team at Dwyane “The Rock” Johnson’s Seven Bucks Productions. The story notes that the company will be adding Scot Landsman as Head of Television and Melissa Fried as the VP of Film Development and Production.

The story also noted that Seven Bucks has 60 film and television projects in the works including one about the “mysterious demise” of World Championship Wrestling. This project is being done in partnership with Vice Studios so this could end up on Vice TV sometime in the near future. There were no other details made available on the project.

WCW was the second largest wrestling company in the world and at one time they were number 1 in the ratings for 83 weeks in a row until missteps within management, wrestlers, and people in Turner Broadcasting caused the company to freefall and lose tens of millions of dollars per year by the time they were purchased by Vince McMahon’s World Wrestling Federation.

The demise of WCW has been covered in countless books and documentaries so it will be interesting to see what Seven Bucks can bring to the table that fans don’t already know about WCW’s demise. The Rock’s production company previously worked with Vice on the “Tales from the Territories” series.
