Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson surprised attendees of D23 on Friday night by unveiling the latest trailer for Disney’s “Moana 2” animated film.
Moana 2 is scheduled to be released in the United States on November 27, 2024. The Rock is also working on a live-action adaptation of “Moana” in production with a July 2026 release. Both movies follow the smashing success of “Moana” in 2016.
The plot notes, “Moana 2 reunites Moana and Maui three years later for an expansive new voyage alongside a crew of unlikely seafarers. After receiving an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors, Moana must journey to the far seas of Oceania and into dangerous, long-lost waters for an adventure unlike anything she’s ever faced. “
It’s directed by David Derrick Jr., Jason Hand, and Dana Ledoux Miller and produced by Christina Chen and Yvett Merino. Auli‘i Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson star as Moana and Maui.
The film also features returning stars Rachel House (Moana’s Grandma, Tala), Temuera Morrison (Moana’s father, Chief Tui) and Nicole Scherzinger (Moana’s mother, Sina), Hualālai Chung, David Fane and Rose Matafeo as Moni, Kele and Loto.
Rock also confirmed that a “Monster Jam” project is in the works, although details are still limited.
