The Rock vs. Roman Reigns may not happen at WrestleMania 38 in Dallas, TX.
WrestlingNews.co previously noted that there is a belief in WWE that the match will likely happen at WrestleMania 39 in Los Angeles in 2023. WrestlingNews.co was told last year that Vince McMahon preferred to have the match in Los Angeles because it would generate more buzz because so many mainstream media outlets are based in the area. Obviously, everything would depend on The Rock’s schedule.
During Monday’s Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer talked about The Rock and why fans might need to wait longer to see him back in the ring.
“[Lesnar] being brought back was a reaction to Punk,” Meltzer said, “That’s what it was because it was a last minute call. I’m presuming today that [Lesnar vs. Reigns is for] next year’s WrestleMania. That’s what I’m presuming today because Dwayne Johnson is probably not – you know, that’s up to Dwayne Johnson, I mean next year’s WrestleMania. When he wants to wrestle and when his schedule is cleared, that’s when he’s gonna wrestle.”
Meltzer said that while he presumes that Lesnar vs. Reigns is for WrestleMania, it can also happen at Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia since WWE makes more money from that show than they do at WrestleMania but as far as The Rock at next year’s WrestleMania, that is not locked in.
Meltzer said, “Everything is up in the air. From a money standpoint, yes you can do [Lesnar vs. Reigns] in Saudi Arabia.”
