There’s been a lot of talk on social media about the marriage of Paul “Triple H” Levesque and Stephanie McMahon with people on social media claiming that the couple has gotten a divorce. The rumors were fueled by a post from the Twitter/X account of WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels. In this video, we will get to the bottom of these rumors, where they started, and what is and isn’t true about divorce rumors.
By now, most wrestling fans know that Triple H and Stephanie started dating sometime in late 2000 or early 2001 after they worked together on TV. Initially, Vince McMahon wasn’t on board with the relationship because he didn’t want his daughter dating a wrestler. Stephanie has said in interviews that Vince only gave them permission to date for a month and then he took it away but then they started to have really strong feelings for each other.
When fans started to find out that Hunter was in a relationship with Stephanie, that’s when people started to put an asterisk over his wrestling accomplishments and many fans started calling for the end of the marriage and there were even rumors in the early 2000s that they had split. Of course, those rumors weren’t true.
The couple married in 2003 in Sleepy Hollow, New York and the rest is history. However, that didn’t stop fans from speculating about when their marriage would end because, in many minds, Triple H married into the family because he wanted to advance his wrestling career. Never mind the fact that they had three kids together in the years since their marriage.
So where do the latest rumors about their divorce come from? In recent years, fans on social media have been pointing to the fact that Hunter has been seen without his wedding ring. The rumors went into overdrive when WWE posted a video of Stephanie and Hunter giving fans a tour of WrestleMania Axxess in 2018.
Some on social media theorized that Hunter was trying to hide his hand in his pocket. Others wondered why he appeared to be so standoffish towards his wife. This was enough for fans to piece together that they are separated and that they just appear together on camera as a front for their public image.
The rumors really picked up on September 22, 2023, when the X/Twitter account for Shawn Michales “liked” a tweet from someone that said the following: “Why should he give the company to his daughter? It’s his company and he built it. If he wants to cash out then let him. And Stephanie has hardly proved she can run the [company]. Just look at how she treated Dusty after he owned her in a promo or how she keeps claiming credit for women’s revolution.”
That tweet added more fuel to the rumors and that led to fans speculating that Shawn was sticking up for his friend Hunter. Let’s clear up some of the rumors. First, the Shawn Michaels “like” was not done by Shawn himself. The account is run by his management company, Encore Sports. Shawn has said himself that he’s not very tech savvy and he doesn’t regularly post on social media.
Ok, so why has Triple H been seen not wearing his wedding ring? The fact is that he often does not wear his ring and he’s been photographed many times over the years without the ring while Stephanie would wear her ring. This is not unusual
Another theory that has been floated online is that Hunter and Stephanie split around the time when Vince stepped down in July of 2022. Stephanie’s posts on social media are few and far between but a quick look at her Instagram account shows her pictured with Hunter last October in Halloween costumes. She included the caption that said, “19 years with the man of my dreams @tripleh! Happy Anniversary! I Love You!”
To add to that, there is a user on the F4W website who lives near Hunter and Stephanie’s home in New Hampshire and he noted that they put on a fireworks display on July 4th, 2023.
The post reads, “I have a lake house down the street from theirs in New Hampshire and I can tell you they put on the July 4th firework display for everyone in the harbor. So at least at that point, they were together.”
So, in conclusion, there is no concrete evidence that Hunter and Stephanie are divorced and all signs point to them still being together and happily married.
