Last February, I exclusively reported that The Undertaker wanted to wrestle AJ Styles at WrestleMania because he looks at Styles as the modern-day Shawn Michaels.
As seen in the clip below, Taker was thinking about Styles as far back as 2018. Taker said, “One guy here that I missed that I would have loved to have worked with — AJ. He gets it, he really does. He reminds me a lot of Shawn [Michaels].”
Taker finally got to work with Styles this year in the Boneyard Match. Taker has yet to confirm whether or not he has retired. In fact, he chose not to give an answer last week when he was interviewed by ESPN’s Ariel Helwani.
On Raw, there have been hints of a possible Taker vs. Styles rematch as Styles was shown throwing popcorn at the TV as he watched Taker’s documentary. If Taker still wants one more match, SummerSlam seems like a possibility but, as I noted back in February, WWE has been working on ideas for Survivor Series to commemorate Taker’s 30th anniversary with the company.
Below is a clip from 2018 of Taker talking about wanting to wrestle Styles.
