The Undertaker’s wife Michelle McCool did an interview with NYPost.com where she spoke about a wide range of topics.
During the interview, she was asked whether or not she knew that The Undertaker’s undefeated streak would come to an end at WrestleMania 30 in 2014 at the hands of Brock Lesnar.
McCool stated that she did know late in the afternoon and couldn’t believe it but Taker was fine with it. She points out how Taker understands that business is business.
This is where things got interesting as she recalled how WWE wanted to end the streak at WrestleMania 24 in 2008 when Taker was wrestling Edge for the WWE World Heavyweight Title.
“Actually I remember a few years prior that WrestleMania (24) versus Edge they talked about Edge breaking the streak and it was Edge that was actually like, ‘That makes zero sense. I don’t want to do that.
Why would I do that? The fans already love him. What’s it gonna do for Edge?’ It was Edge that went to bat for the streak. I know they had talked about it prior to the match with Brock, but you know it happened. It’s fine, it’s not like it’s an end-all, be-all for Mark by any stretch of the imagination.”
She was then asked whether this was the only time she heard talk of WWE wanting to break the streak.
McCool confirmed that and stated it made for some good memes for years to come, which is a reference to the reactions of fans in attendance. It was one of the most shocking moments in WWE history.
McCool also talked about The Undertaker’s new documentary on the WWE Network that premieres this Sunday and more. You can check out the full interview here.
