As you could imagine, there is a ton of reaction coming in on social media after the news broke that former WWWF Champion Bruno Sammartino passed away.

Not to quote a cliche…..but the death of Bruno Sammartino at 82 is indeed the end of an era. Most people in the South never saw him, only heard of him in wrestling magazines until the '70s. In that era, he WAS the WWWF.

Many Bruno Sammartino stories will be shared in the coming days. A small one here: He wanted to fight Muhammad Ali and felt it should have been him, not Antonio Inoki, who got the chance. He lambasted Inoki as it happened in June '76 while watching closed-circuit at Shea Stadium.
