WWE is not done yet with their cost-cutting.
The recent releases of names like Braun Strowman, Lana, and Aleister Black appeared to be the end of budget cuts after the wave of releases in April and the 60+ people that were released on the corporate side but apparently, the company is looking to cut more costs and more releases are expected soon.
Andrew Zarian of the Mat Men Podcast, who is very reliable and has contacts who are very connected to WWE, said that he was told that the recent releases were not the final list of names to be cut.
Zarian said, “I do know that they want to cut back on these contracts and there are more releases. There will be more. I don’t know when, but I was told, ‘yeah this isn’t the final cut.’ So, we’ll see.”
WWE has yet to announce cuts on the NXT UK side of things so there could be some more names on that roster that will be affected but the biggest contracts are on the main roster so it’s anyone’s guess on who will be next.
WWE signed several wrestlers to big contracts last year to keep them away from AEW but as Nick Khan continues to position the company as a media conglomerate with aspirations to become the next Marvel, the focus seems to be less about keeping people away from AEW and more on taking the company to another level. There’s been speculation that all of these cuts are to set the company up for a sale at some point within the next few years. People in WWE have denied that the company is about to be sold.
