Earlier today, we wrote about the details of the backstage altercation between Matt Riddle and Brock Lesnar before the Royal Rumble pay-per-view. Apparently, this is not the only time Riddle has rubbed someone the wrong way.
Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that there is heat on Riddle and that’s the reason why he was booked to be eliminated so quickly in the Men’s Royal Rumble match. This came up during a conversation with Bryan Alvarez on other candidates that were considered for the WrestleMania match with Lesnar. Meltzer noted that Aleister Black was considered for the spot and Riddle was not one of the names considered.
Meltzer said, “Matt Riddle was not in the running for this spot, Not at all. That’s more Vince.” He continued, “whatever it is, there’s a lot of heat on Matt Riddle right now. If you were wondering what happened in the Royal Rumble and why, there’s your why.”
“He isn’t in the forefront and there’s a reason why he was in and out so quick and it was more than just a way to get heat for Baron Corbin, which ended up being what the outcome was. I’m not there, I can’t speak for his attitude. I can only speak for his performance, his performance is really good. I haven’t heard anything negative on his attitude but that doesn’t mean that there’s nothing there. It doesn’t mean that somehow he just rubs somebody the wrong way with whatever it is that he’s done. I don’t know what it would be.”
This may also explain why Riddle is not being pushed to the main event spot on NXT as it looks like it will Tommaso Ciampa challenging Adam Cole for the NXT Championship at TakeOver: Portland.
Last September, Riddle noted on Twitter that none of his co-workers were willing to give him a ride to work.
Tommaso Ciampa responded to the tweet: “The boys shall police themselves. Aka go fuck yourself.”
