A former WWE NXT champion’s days with the company could be numbered.
Last week, Roderick Strong and wife Marina Shafir launched a Pro Wrestling Tees store and this caused speculation that Strong is on his way out of WWE. The couple currently has a family shirt up on the site. While his full name is not listed, the shirt has “The Strongs” printed on it. Strong also launched his own individual store but that has since been removed from Pro Wrestling Tees’ website.
Strong might already see the writing on the wall because WWE is looking to push younger talent and while he is a great worker, he is also 38 years old and not someone who will get much of a shot on the main roster. Scotty 2 Hotty noted at this link that even the coaches at the Performance Center were told to dye their hair because they needed to look younger. Although he signed a new contract in early 2021, Strong is a Triple H hire and most of the recent cuts were people who were considered to be Triple H guys.
Another sign that his days in WWE could be coming to an end is he’s been losing matches in recent weeks. Strong dropped the NXT Cruiserweight Title to Carmelo Hayes on the 1/4 episode of NXT 2.0. Since that time. He also lost a match to Gunther (WALTER). Prior to the 1/21 episode of SmackDown, he lost a dark match to LA Knight and during tonight’s Main Event taping, he lost to T-Bar.
If Strong leaves WWE then AEW could be where he lands since the rest of The Undisputed Era is there and Shafir has been wrestling on the Dark tapings. Strong signed a new deal earlier in 2021 but that deal may have been signed when Triple H was still running NXT.
Also at tonight’s Main Event taping, LA Knight defeated Cedric Alexander.
