There is a reason why WWE programming is stale but things are about to pick up

If you are a little frustrated with Monday Night Raw and Smackdown Live in recent weeks, then just hold on tight for a little while.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that they have been booking so many multiple-person matches lately because the booking is slow and they don’t have a lot of ideas for right now. In a nutshell, they are holding back until July and August. It’s clear that fans are not as interested in the show as they were just a few months ago because this week’s rating was their lowest rated show of the year. It was also among the lowest-rated shows in Raw’s history.

Things should start to heat up when they start building towards SummerSlam, which is also around the time that Brock Lesnar will be back. Lesnar is scheduled to defend the WWE Universal Championship at July’s Great Balls of Fire pay-per-view and SummerSlam in August.

On WWE TV, they have been teasing Finn Balor as a challenger to Lesnar’s title. It would make sense for him to face Lesnar in July with the storyline bring that Balor is the underdog trying to overcome the odds and he is looking to reclaim the title that he never lost. Seth Rollins has also been teased as a potential opponent. Braun Strowman’s match with Lesnar would make sense for SummerSlam when Strowman is back from injury. The idea is to hold off Roman Reigns’ chase for the title until they start the build for his program with Lesnar during WrestleMania season.
