On Thursday’s edition of Wrestling Observer Live, Bryan Alvarez addressed the departure of Brian “Road Dogg” James from the WWE creative staff. This development follows an initial report by Bodyslam.net regarding James’ exit from the company.
James had been part of previous creative transitions, with Alvarez noting a past shift in responsibilities:
“Then I think it was like last summer. He wasn’t like, taken off creative, but maybe a restructuring and, and somebody else kind of took over.”
The restructuring includes the elevation of existing staff to high-level leadership positions. Alvarez confirmed the promotion of Alexandra Williams, who has been with the company since 2020:
“WWE has a new lead writer, Alexandra Williams, posted Wednesday. She has been promoted to Vice President as well as lead writer of Raw. Williams has been with WWE since October 2020 starting as a writer and producer for Raw, getting a promotion as senior writer and producer February 2024, she is now the lead writer for Raw.”
Alvarez stated that additional moves may be forthcoming:
“Basically, what’s happened here is we’ve got a creative shake up on Raw and SmackDown. And it was hinted to me that it’s possible there is more to come.”
Alvarez discussed the current state of WWE creative and noted that several planned storylines for WrestleMania have been disrupted by a series of medical issues affecting top-tier talent:
“I’ll say this…Has the creative been great of late? It is not are there some reasons for that? Well, of course, there is… one of the biggest things that was going to happen at WrestleMania was, was Bron Breakker beating CM Punk for the title and the elevation of Bron Breakker. And obviously, Bron Breakker got hurt after Seth Rollins got hurt, Bronson Reed then got hurt.”
