There seems to be smoke to those Edge-WWE return rumors

Edge has tried to put out rumors suggesting that he’s returning to the ring. However, the latest news will only fuel speculation on his in-ring return.

PWInsider is reporting that Edge has been seen around a number of WWE TV tapings as of late. As previously noted, Edge signed a new WWE contract a couple of months ago. This was sometime around when he speared Elias during the SummerSlam Kickoff show and it was the first thing he’s done physically on WWE TV in years.

Although Edge has been denying being cleared or returning to the ring, his status has been a rumor backstage at WWE shows and the word is that if he does return then he would be back for more than one show. It would be similar to Brock Lesnar’s deal where he would wrestle a few times per year.

Edge has told people that he’s gotten himself back in shape after going through a rough time when his mother passed away. His neck is said to be feeling better and he’s talked about looking into stem cell treatment. Many wrestlers, including Kevin Nash, have said they are in much less pain because of stem cell treatments.

“To be perfectly honest, I think I could do a match tomorrow,” Edge said on his podcast last August. “I might be blown up but I’d be okay. It’s just from what I know with the WWE medical staff, they won’t allow. It is what it is, right?”

There was a time when WWE was very strict about wrestlers with serious neck issues not taking bumps. That has somewhat changed in the last couple of years with Kurt Angle and Daniel Bryan being allowed to take bumps. In fact, we posted a potential spoiler on another big name who may come out of retirement at the Royal Rumble. Click here for that story.

We’ll see if Edge follows the path of Daniel Bryan and Kurt Angle or if he follows Sting’s path. Sting has said that he would love one final match with The Undertaker but WWE will not clear him to take bumps.

Edge’s presence backstage at recent WWE TV shows certainly adds fuel to those rumors about his in-ring return…or a full-time role working backstage at the very least.
