Title match announcement for WWE Hell in a Cell is on hold

Although WWE’s Hell in a Cell pay-per-view is quickly approaching, one title match is on hold.

That match is for the WWE Title that is currently held by Kofi Kingston. So far the company has already announced two matches for the show. WWE has decided against setting up a challenger for the strap.

WWE has confirmed that Kingston will make his next title defense against Lesnar on the first Friday Night SmackDown on FOX on October 2nd. The PPV takes place a few days later.

Thus, if the winner is to defend the title, it won’t be made clear until after this match. Dave Meltzer mentioned the news in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. WWE went in a different way regarding the build to the Universal Title Match at this same show.

WWE had Bray Wyatt challenge the winner of Seth Rollins vs. Braun Strowman at the Clash of Champions show a few weeks in advance. The difference in the build-up to these matches is the fact that WWE sees the first SmackDown on FOX as a bigger show than HIAC.

WWE holds the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view event on Sunday, October 6, 2019 in Sacramento, California at the Golden 1 Center and will air on the WWE Network. Here is the updated card:

WWE Universal Title Hell in a Cell Match:
Seth Rollins (champion) vs. Bray Wyatt

WWE Raw Women’s Title Hell in a Cell Match:
Becky Lynch (champion) vs. Sasha Banks
