This past weekend’s two-night SummerSlam was a historic success for WWE. During the Q2 2025 TKO Earnings Call, TKO Chief Operating Officer Mark Shapiro announced that the event was the most-viewed SummerSlam in company history.
A Record-Breaking SummerSlam Viewership
While specific numbers were not provided, Shapiro was clear in his assessment of the event’s success. “Our SummerSlam was the most viewed we’ve ever had in history,” he stated during the earnings call.
SummerSlam Becoming ‘Another WrestleMania’ For WWE
Shapiro went on to explain that the success of the two-night format for SummerSlam is part of the company’s strategy to elevate more of its premium live events to the level of WrestleMania, which in turn drives higher revenue from live events and site fees. “So quickly, that is turning into another WrestleMania for us,” he said. “And the more that Nick (Khan) and Paul (Levesque) can drive these events to be of that ilk and that level… that’s what’s gonna get us the rest of the way there on a margin increase.”
The record-breaking event from MetLife Stadium was filled with memorable moments, including the shocking return of Brock Lesnar after a two-year absence, Seth Rollins’ “Ruse of the Century” Money in the Bank cash-in to become the new World Heavyweight Champion, and Cody Rhodes successfully defending the Undisputed WWE Championship against John Cena in a Street Fight.
