TNA Wrestling Had Talks About Selling To Tony Khan Years Ago

As the partnership between WWE and TNA Wrestling continues to expand, it also shows what AEW could’ve done with TNA in such a partnership.

Last week, WWE and TNA announced they have reached a multi-year partnership aimed at creating unprecedented crossover opportunities within WWE and TNA programming. The press noted, “The agreement will enable talent to garner additional exposure across key WWE and TNA programming, including weekly flagship shows such as NXT – which airs live on The CW – and TNA iMPACT!, select WWE Premium Live Events and TNA pay-per-views, in turn bolstering their in-ring development with exposure to world-class talent and coaching.”

AEW and TNA had a working relationship during the COVID-19 pandemic as Kenny Omega and other stars worked TNA shows while AEW also had TNA talent appear on their programming. AEW CEO Tony Khan even made appearances in pre-tape videos on Impact.

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that “TNA did attempt to sell to Tony Khan in 2018 and had talks about a year ago with Scott D’Amore about selling but turned D’Amore offer price down.” D’Amore tried to buy TNA after he was informed of his impending departure, as the promotion wanted to go in a different direction.
