Former WWE NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa is still awaiting his return to in-ring action.
Ciampa recently reacted to a report that surfaced online regarding his return. It started when he noticed that Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful had released their weekly internal injury report. On the list, it stated the “internal listings had Tommaso Ciampa listed at mid-August, and now peg him at 9/11.”
The former WWE NXT Champion took to his official Twitter account where he wrote the following:
I have been told that I am cleared to return as of September 11th…by the internet. So, I called and asked my surgeon to confirm. He laughed at me. And said (kind of in an Allen Iverson voice) “the internet, we talking about the internet”. Sooooo…”
Sapp did respond to Ciampa by stating, “As mentioned in the article, it’s per WWE’s internal injury report, which I’ve passed along to you personally.”
In the article, it states, “It should be noted that all of the return times are estimates by WWE internally, and are not definitive. These change often based on the progress or lack thereof of a superstar.”
He’s recovering after suffering a neck injury that ultimately led to him getting surgery and relinquishing the NXT Title in March.
