On his Busted Open After Dark podcast, Tommy Dreamer spoke glowingly about the recent developments in the WWE women’s division, arguing that the new Women’s World Championship feud should main event a night of SummerSlam. He specifically praised the work of Iyo Sky, Naomi, and Rhea Ripley.
Dreamer reserved his highest praise for Iyo Sky, putting her in an elite class of performers known for their unique in-ring style. “I’m starting to look at her in a whole new light,” Dreamer began. “And when I say different, a lot of people know what I’m referring to is just like a different type of person, like a Rob Van Dam, a Sabu, a Will Ospreay, an AJ Styles, a Shawn Michaels. I put people in different categories just because of how they just move and how they work.” He also called the Evolution II main event between Sky and Rhea Ripley “freaking amazing.”
Naomi’s “Brilliant” Character Work
The match at Evolution II concluded with Naomi cashing in her Money in the Bank contract. Dreamer was thoroughly impressed with her subsequent heel promo on Monday Night Raw. “Her promo was brilliant, because when everyone’s ‘You deserve it, you deserve it,’ she basically gave you a middle finger without showing you the middle finger,” Dreamer explained. “And was like, ‘Where were you? You weren’t feeling the glow. Where were you when this, when that,’ and totally turned on them. And I loved it.”
Dreamer continued to praise Naomi’s development. “This whole new character that she has, her laugh, her delivery, everything she’s doing, she’s showing even more confidence on the microphone every time you hand it to her. She’s phenomenal,” he said. The segment ultimately led to a Triple Threat match being announced for SummerSlam.
As a result of the cash-in and subsequent confrontation, a Triple Threat match for the Women’s World Championship between the new champion Naomi, Rhea Ripley, and Iyo Sky has been made official for SummerSlam. The match will be one of the marquee attractions of the two-night event in Cleveland, Ohio.
