Tommy Dreamer thinks ECW contributed to the decline in actual wrestling

Tommy Dreamer spoke with Total Wrestling Magazine to promote his upcoming appearance for the Target Wrestling promotion in the UK. Here are the highlights.

On where the decline in actual wrestling came from:

“I think ECW spurred a lot of garbage wrestling. Guys would look at myself and Sandman and think that they could put on a T-Shirt and sweatpants and call themselves a wrestler. There’s a lot more to it. There are some seriously great workers out there in the UK.”

On the UK wrestling scene:

“I keep tabs on what’s going on with wrestling around the world. I know the popularity is huge in Scotland with packed houses. There seems to be a kinda of, and I don’t want to use this word, but a revolution. For a while there were a lot of crappy wrestlers, like there are everywhere but the UK always had a small group of great wrestlers, guys that could really wrestle. I remember watching these guys and being like ‘woah, what happened here’. Then all of a sudden there was the swell of talent and amazing wrestlers. I know because when I was working in WWE, they were some of the first guys I hired. This growth of UK talent and the UK scene in general over the past six to eight years is incredible.”
