Tony Khan has credited Samoa Joe with saving a critical moment during All In 2023 at Wembley Stadium. Speaking in a new interview, the AEW President discussed the backstage altercation between CM Punk and Jack Perry and how Joe stepped up to handle the situation.
Khan specifically praised the former World Champion for ensuring that the show went on as planned despite the chaos occurring just moments before the broadcast began.
“I think it was very good that Samoa Joe de-escalated the situation and also that Samoa Joe made sure that the fans got the match that they thought they had paid to see,” Khan told Q101. “He went out there and everything was great, and he was such a professional and that exemplifies Samoa Joe in the ring and out of the ring the most professional man and he was so great that day and so many other times.”
Joe wrestled Punk in the opening match of the main card that night, a match that Punk won. It would ultimately be Punk’s final match in AEW before his termination. Khan noted that Joe’s leadership capabilities are unmatched.
“He’s one of the most incredible people I’ve ever met what the leader Samoa Joe is in the ring and out of the ring a captain, a true captain of a team and I’m very blessed that he’s in AEW,” Khan said.
