Kota Ibushi talked with the Japanese media this week about the reports of WWE offering a full-time deal. WWE has had interest in him dating back to February. Ibushi noted that he turned down a full-time deal but he is open to doing some shows for WWE. He said that his goal is to continue wrestling in Japan and he already has dates lined up there.
Ibushi is one of the biggest names competing in the Cruiserweight Classic. I would argue that he comes off as the biggest star on that show. It will be interesting to see if WWE changes plans on him for the CWC tournament because it looked like he was a favorite to make it to the finals.
The company is looking for full-timers for the Cruiserweight division on Raw so this would mean that we wouldn’t see Ibushi on the main roster. During the NXT Takeover: Brooklyn II conference call, Triple H said that he would be open to bringing people in for spot shows in NXT, similar to what they did last year with Jushin “Thunder” Liger at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn.
Ibushi also told the Japanese media that his dream is to become the most famous wrestler in the world so I’m holding out hope that he will eventually sign a full-time deal.
