Note, this post contains spoiler info for future NXT episodes and the NXT TakeOver special scheduled for SummerSlam weekend in Toronto.
Don’t look for Matt Riddle to move up to the main roster anytime soon. In fact, as indicated at the recent NXT TV tapings, he’s not even the next in line to challenge Adam Cole for the NXT Championship at TakeOver in Toronto. He is not booked for that show at all but it looks like he will get a title shot later this year. Click here for NXT TV tapings spoilers and click here for the likely card for TakeOver in Toronto.
On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer said he was told that Riddle will be staying in NXT for a while because they want to take their time with him.
“What I was told is Matt Riddle is going to be in there for a long time. They don’t want to rush him into anything,” Meltzer said.
I was told that Triple H sees Riddle as someone who could be a big star on the main roster because of his look and charisma and feels like he is someone even Vince McMahon would push.
One side note about Riddle is that he’s been given more freedom with his promos. Also, on social media, a lot of what he says is how he truly feels. He really does want a match with Brock Lesnar at some point even though there are no plans for that right now but the company has not asked him to tone down what he says on Twitter.
