For those of you wondering why Kofi Kingston did not wrestle on SmackDown Live and why he’s off live events, it’s because of an injury.
As noted by Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, Kingston is dealing with back issues but it’s believed that he will be able to wrestle on Sunday when he defends the WWE Championship against Samoa Joe. It will be interesting to find out the severity of the back injury because if it’s worse than we know, then that could mean that he would have to drop the title to Joe on Sunday.
“Kofi’s got a bad back but he’s going to be wrestling, from what I understand,” Meltzer said. “That’s why he didn’t wrestle on Monday or Tuesday. He got hurt on Sunday.”
The injury occurred during his live event match on Sunday with Dolph Ziggler.
WWE is also teasing that Brock Lesnar could cash in his Money In The Bank briefcase against Kingston or Seth Rollins. WWE does have plans to feature Lesnar at SummerSlam so it wouldn’t be a shock if he cashes in on Kingston this Sunday. That would make Lesnar a SmackDown guy in time for the move to FOX in October.
