Drew McIntyre made history at WrestleMania 36 when he beat Brock Lesnar to win the WWE Championship. This marked the first time ever that a British star had won the championship.
However, some fans might have noticed that he wasn't present on Raw for the final build to the match. Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the reason for his absence was because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Back on March 12, McIntyre and Sheamus both had to leave the UK early. They were over there in order to do a promotional tour for WrestleMania. When travel restrictions were put in place because of the outbreak, they had to leave early.
It was noted in the report that McIntyre had to be quarantined when he returned to the United States. Thus, the time he spent quarantined prevented him from working the tapings that took place in advance of WrestleMania.
On the March 23 episode of Raw, McIntyre appeared in a pre-recorded promo video. He did not appear in the ring with Lesnar while they were taping Raw at the Performance Center, which took place over the course of the same week as the WrestleMania tapings.
The same went for Bobby Lashley and Kairi Sane, who missed Raw episodes for the build of their programs. As noted, Sane had been in Japan to get married while Lashley had been on a promotional tour of South Africa.
Any talent who traveled back into the United States from foreign countries were all forced into quarantine.
