Top WWE Star Not Expected Back On TV Until After SummerSlam

WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio is expected to make his return to the ring this August after being sidelined with a torn groin since April. The update on his recovery timeline was provided by his close friend and fellow wrestling legend, Konnan, on a recent episode of the “Keepin’ It 100” podcast.

Mysterio has been out of action since the go-home episode of SmackDown before WrestleMania 41. The injury occurred on the April 18, 2025, broadcast during a six-man tag team match where he teamed with Dragon Lee and Rey Fenix against the American Made faction (Chad Gable, Julius Creed & Brutus Creed). The torn groin forced him to be pulled from his scheduled WrestleMania match against El Grande Americano (Chad Gable’s masked persona).

The injury was one of two Mysterio was dealing with at the time, as he later revealed he had also suffered a busted eardrum. His absence from WrestleMania was a significant change to the card, with Rey Fenix stepping in to take his place in the match against El Grande Americano.

Despite being unable to compete, Mysterio has made non-wrestling appearances for WWE. Most recently, he appeared at the open of the WWE x AAA Worlds Collide premium live event on June 7 in Los Angeles, where he addressed the audience and kicked off the historic crossover show.

The August timeframe would likely mean that he would be back on TV shortly after SummerSlam.
