John Cena has announced that Coyote vs. ACME, the live-action and animated hybrid film that was controversially shelved by Warner Bros. Discovery in late 2023, is finally heading to theaters.
Cena posted the official trailer on social media alongside the release date announcement. “The biggest cartoon court case ever. Coyote vs. ACME. In theaters August 28,” Cena wrote.
The film centers on Wile E. Coyote suing the Acme Corporation for the many traps that backfired during his pursuit of the Road Runner. Will Forte portrays Coyote’s lawyer Kevin Avery, while Cena plays Buddy Crane, a ruthless corporate attorney representing Acme. The project blends 2D animation with live-action footage and was primarily filmed in New Mexico in 2022.
The film was reportedly shelved due to cost-cutting decisions by Warner Bros. Discovery CEO and President David Zaslav, a move that generated criticism in Hollywood at the time given that the film had already been completed.
Cena hosted WWE WrestleMania 42 last weekend in Las Vegas, his first WWE television appearance since retiring from in-ring competition in December.
