At the NXT Showdown event, a team from TNA Wrestling defeated a team from WWE’s NXT. The match was a Survivor Series-style elimination bout pitting TNA’s Moose, Mike Santana, Frankie Kazarian, and Leon Slater against NXT’s Ricky Saints, Trick Williams, Je’Von Evans, and Myles Borne. TNA wrestler Joe Hendry was the special referee.
This match was the result of an ongoing rivalry between the two wrestling companies. For months, wrestlers from NXT have been showing up on TNA shows, and TNA stars have appeared on NXT television. The bad blood led to this showdown, which was set up to prove which brand had the tougher wrestlers.
TNA took control of the match early on. Frankie Kazarian was the first to get an elimination, pinning Myles Borne after hitting him with a Cutter. Soon after, Leon Slater caught Je’Von Evans with a roll-up and pinned him, putting Team TNA up four wrestlers to NXT’s two.
The match completely changed when Ricky Saints tried to tag in his partner, Trick Williams. Instead of taking the tag, Williams dropped down from the side of the ring and walked out on the match, leaving Saints to fight the remaining four TNA members all by himself. Despite being outnumbered, Saints started a comeback. He pinned Kazarian by turning a chokehold into a pin. He then pinned Leon Slater after blocking a Swanton Bomb with his knees.
Now facing just Moose and Mike Santana, Saints’ run came to an end. He dodged a spear from Moose, who accidentally hit his own partner, Santana. After the collision, Moose hit Saints with a powerbomb. Santana recovered, hit Saints with a clothesline, and pinned him to win the match for his team, giving the victory to Team TNA.
