Triple H On Childhood Obesity: “The Flip Of The Food Pyramid Is The Correct Call”

Paul “Triple H” Levesque appeared on FOX News Channel’s The Ingraham Angle to discuss the Trump administration’s initiative to bring whole milk back to schools and the broader “Make America Healthy Again” campaign. Speaking with guest host Kayleigh McEnany, Levesque, who serves as the Vice Chair of the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition, addressed criticisms regarding new health guidelines.

Whole Milk and Nutritional Guidelines

McEnany noted that while the administration is pushing for the return of whole milk, some outlets and institutions are resisting. She cited The Atlantic, which reported that the new guidelines are “in contrast to most nutritionists” due to concerns over saturated fat limits. McEnany also highlighted that New York City’s public schools are “openly resisting Trump’s law, sticking with 1 percent and skim milk”.

Levesque defended the policy changes, attributing the disagreement among experts to how nutrition has been historically taught. “I truly believe that most nutritionists that disagree with it, it’s because they were taught wrong from the beginning. They were taught nutrition in the wrong way,” Levesque said. “The flip of the food pyramid is the correct call. I just think that that is in children’s best interest”.

Childhood Obesity Statistics

Levesque pointed to alarming statistics regarding childhood health as the driver for these changes. “It’s mind-boggling when you look at those numbers, a 270 percent increase from 50 years ago. One in five kids is obese,” Levesque stated. “And statistically they will spend the rest of their life obese. They will have chronic diseases because of it”.

He argued that the solution lies in preventative measures rather than reactive treatments. “The biggest significant change you can make is exercise and nutrition. It’s not treating it down the line. It’s treating it now, while you’re young”.

Exercise and Availability of Healthy Foods

During the interview, McEnany played a clip from a PBS guest who suggested that individuals trying to eat well are “fighting the entire food system.” Levesque pushed back on this notion, asserting that healthy options remain accessible.

“To say that you’re fighting a system, I don’t know,” Levesque responded. “When I go to a grocery store, there are still fruits and vegetables there. There are still whole foods. There are still whole milks. There are still meats and healthy foods that you can eat. You don’t have to eat processed foods”.

Levesque concluded by emphasizing the importance of physical activity and a return to basic nutritional principles. “People, they just need to put down their phones, get out there, exercise,” Levesque said. “What was the difference 50 years ago? The food pyramid wasn’t seen in the way that it was… We have got to get back to the basics, eating whole foods, nutritionally sound foods”.
