The “mystery crate” saga that has spanned both Monday Night Raw and Friday Night SmackDown reached its chilling conclusion at Elimination Chamber 2026 in Chicago, as former AEW star Danhausen made his long-awaited WWE debut.
The human-sized crate, which featured a strict warning not to be opened until February 28, was brought to the center of the United Center. When the box was finally opened, it revealed a coffin surrounded by dancers wearing Danhausen’s signature face paint. Danhausen himself emerged from the coffin and led the group to the ring, where he posed for the hometown crowd. In a signature supernatural flourish, the lights went out, and when they returned, the entire group had vanished.
During the Elimination Chamber Post-Show, Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque addressed the arrival of the “Very Nice, Very Evil” star and his immediate interaction with the commentary team.
“Michael Cole got a nice bucket of teeth. I think we’re in for a fun time… whatever it is, it’s gonna be a blast,” Levesque said.
Danhausen later took to X to celebrate his departure from his previous promotion and his new beginning. “Danhausen is ALIVE and back inside your television,” he wrote.
The debut follows an interesting period for the 35-year-old performer. Danhausen had been removed from the AEW roster page on February 28 after his contract—which had been extended against his wishes due to injury time—officially expired. Reports from Fightful Select indicated that while he had not wrestled for AEW or ROH since 2024, there were people within WWE pushing for his signing under the new regime.
Danhausen’s status appears to be that of a “free agent” within the WWE ecosystem, with his debut serving as a bridge between the Elimination Chamber and the “Road to WrestleMania 42” in Las Vegas.
