Triple H Addresses Drew Mcintyre’s WWE TV Return: He Was Dying To Come Back

Monday’s episode of WWE Raw featured the return of Drew McIntyre, who had been off television since putting over CM Punk inside Hell in a Cell at Bad Blood in October. McIntyre was busted open when he took a shot to the head from a toolbox at the hands of Punk. McIntyre was said to be banged up and needed 16 staples to close the wound on the top of his head.

WWE opted to give him time off to heal up. McIntyre returned at the end of Raw when he attacked Sami Zayn. PWInsider.com reported that McIntyre’s return was not expected to be this soon.

The backstage belief at Raw was that the injury to Bronson Reed at Survivor Series led to McIntyre returning a few weeks earlier than planned. While speaking with Sports Illustrated at a Netflix media event, Triple H spoke about McIntyre’s return.

“He was dying to come back,” Triple H said. “He wasn’t hurt, he wasn’t injured. Let’s just give you a little breather here for a second. And whether that’s spending some time at home enjoying your family, whatever that is, or whether that’s, hey, I have this other project I wanna work on. I have this project that Netflix has come up with, I’m gonna work on that. Whatever. Us having that ability to morph and shift things around and keep things fresh, I think is a tremendous opportunity for us. So, I’d look for more of that too.”

McIntyre is advertised for WWE’s holiday week live events, including Madison Square Garden.
