Despite changes in the schedule, there are plans for a WWE Draft this year. This was confirmed today on the NXT TakeOver: XXX conference call.
Triple H did not give a specific date but said that it would be happening later this year. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter’s Dave Meltzer recently reported that the WWE Draft is currently scheduled for October.
The COVID-19 pandemic has forced WWE to move things around but now that they will be running shows at the ThunderDome inside of the Amway Center, this opens the door for them to do things that they wouldn’t have done at the Performance Center. The WWE Draft would be one of those things.
There were a few others items of note discussed during the conference call.
Some notes from the conference call:
– He was not aware of Lars Sullivan posting workout videos. There was no confirmation given on Sullivan’s status with WWE.
– He said “there’s always conversations” in regards to reports that Randy Orton wants to work with some NXT wrestlers but it’s difficult to make that happen than people realize. He likely is referring to long-term storyline plans that are in place that they wouldn’t want to change.
– He confirmed that there were talks about SummerSlam on a boat and he says Renee Young has been great to work with. He added that fans will find out why they decided on the ThunderDome rather than other options that were presented.
– He confirmed that NXT will stay at Full Sail University. He said, “For the foreseeable, staying in Full Sail is where we’re at and we’ll see where everything goes.”
– When asked if he focuses on the overall number or the coveted 18-49 demo for ratings, Triple H said, “I focus on NXT.”
– If NXT wrestlers appear on Raw Underground, it doesn’t necessarily mean that they are now part of the Raw roster.
– Triple H said that it’s possible for Pat McAfee to do more in the ring after TakeOver: XXX.
