WWE Executive Vice President of Talent, Triple H was interviewed by Sky Sports HQ during his recent visit to the United Kingdom.
He was asked about the upcoming mega fight between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather. Both men are rumored to be making somewhere around $100 million for this fight and people are predicting that this could be the most watched pay-per-view event in history. One of the main reasons for that is because of the way both men have gone back and forth at each other on social media for the past year. I guess you can compare the hype and spectacle surrounding this fight to a WWE show and Triple H would agree. He said, “All sports is entertainment, news is entertainment today, it is just the way of the world.”
McGregor’s people had talks with WWE over the last year or so but nothing materialized and Mayweather did an angle with The Big Show in 2008 that culminated with a match at WrestleMania XXIV. Triple H would love to have them on Monday Night Raw to hype the fight. He said, “You say it is sports entertainment and, if they want to really showcase what they can do, I would invite both guys to come to Monday Night Raw!”
Is it possible that McGregor and Mayweather would agree to go on Raw to verbally box each other before the fight? I would have said that it’s next to impossible but I would have said the same about this fight being signed. So, while this sounds like a longshot, I’d still say anything is possible. I am sure WWE would love to have them both on because it would generate tons of publicity and probably give Raw a huge ratings boost.
He also discussed the finish to the women’s Money In The Bank pay-per-view, WWE’s expansion in the UK, Brock Lesnar’s upcoming match with Samoa Joe, and more. Click here to watch the interview.
