There was some speculation on Saturday night that the finish of the Johnny Gargano vs. Tommaso Ciampa match at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn 4 was modified because of an injury to Gargano.
During the post-Takeover conference call with the wrestling media, Triple H said that a change had to be made on the fly because of Gargano’s knee injury. He said that the severity of the injury was unknown but he would be getting it checked this week.
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that a couple of people in the company told him that the finish went as planned and Triple H was working an angle. They did the same thing last month when they claimed that Lars Sullivan broke his jaw after his match with Aleister Black.
Gargano wrestled at last night’s TV tapings and it looks like they might be embracing the fans turning on him because Velveteen Dream wore a shirt that said “Johnny Failure,” which is what the fans chanted.
