Triple H Says Jey Uso Makes Fans Want To See Him Succeed

In a recent interview with Peter Rosenberg, WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H discussed the factors that have propelled Jey Uso to his current prominent position within WWE.

“Sometimes things happen organically along the way that get you to where you want to be, and Jey through the Bloodline saga was sort of a linchpin in that storytelling, then goes off on his own,” Triple H explained, highlighting Jey Uso’s crucial role in the highly successful Bloodline storyline featuring Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman. He then addressed the questions surrounding Jey’s potential as a singles star, noting, “A lot of people question whether these guys once they leave the Bloodline, once they leave Roman, once they leave Heyman, are they going to be anything more than a tag team that they already were, or are they going to just be what they were? Are they going to succeed and be anything more? You give them the opportunity to do all those things.”

Triple H emphasized that Jey Uso seized the opportunities presented to him. “Jey, when he had the opportunity to do it, would click on these moments. At the end of the day, a lot of times, that’s what our business is just about. It’s about moments.” He then addressed criticisms regarding the importance of in-ring technical skill versus overall performance. “A lot of people think, and, you know, there’s a lot of criticism of this, that it’s just the in-ring product. It’s just how technically good of a wrestler you are. Make me a list of the greatest performers in this business, and that list will be two-thirds of the people that were worse than the majority of the list of great workers that didn’t get to the top.”

Triple H acknowledged Jey Uso’s athletic ability but stressed his connection with the audience. “Jey has great athletic ability, and the things he does in the ring, he does well. Is he the most technical guy here? No. Is he the greatest performer on the face of the earth in the ring? No, but he has a charisma and a likability that he lets people in and they want to see him succeed. So when you walk into a building with 10,000, 30,000 or 60,000 and he walks out and that whole place is doing his entrance with him, and is hanging on everything he does, and are hanging on his words and are hanging on his moments, that’s what it takes. It’s about box office.” This underscores the importance of crowd connection and drawing power in professional wrestling, which Triple H believes Jey Uso possesses.
