WWE was originally going to film the women’s tournament, which will be similar to the Cruiserweight Classic, this month or March in Winter Park, Florida at Full Sail University. However, plans have changed, and the tournament has been pushed back. WWE is reportedly interested in using Nixon Newell, Heidi Lovelace, Kimber Lee, Deonna Purrazzo and Rachael Ellering for the tournament.
Triple H recently appeared on Fox Sports’ Wrestling Compadres podcast and during the interview, he revealed when the company plans to film the tournament. He said that the women’s tournament is another passion of his, but things are always changing. He pointed out the brand split and NXT Takeovers as well as the big four PPVs. He said that they have to find the right time and space to do the tournament. He noted that the UK Championship tournament worked out in a small break before the Royal Rumble PPV. “The women, we’re hoping to do this summer. That’s the plan.” He added that wants to uncover hidden talent like they did with the Cruiserweight Classic.
The full interview will be released this Friday but you can listen to the soundbite of him talking about the women’s tournament around the 21:00 minute mark here:
