WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque has shared his thoughts on the WWE return of former Divas Champion AJ Lee. Speaking on “The Pat McAfee Show,” Levesque had high praise for Lee, stating that even after a decade away from the ring, she “hasn’t missed a beat.”
AJ Lee made her return to WWE on the September 5 episode of Friday Night SmackDown. During a segment where Becky Lynch was berating her husband, CM Punk, Lee’s music hit, and she stormed the ring to a big ovation from the Chicago crowd. She attacked Lynch, standing tall with Punk, to close the show.
During his appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show,” Triple H was asked about Lee’s return and the incredible reaction it received. He praised not only her but all four superstars involved in the burgeoning feud. “When you have four performers who are that talented, and AJ just coming back, it’s been ten years, and she hasn’t missed a beat. Just right in there and as charismatic as ever. Fans are loving it,” he said.
Lee had been effectively retired from professional wrestling for over a decade. Her last match took place on the March 30, 2015, episode of Monday Night Raw, the night after she and Paige were victorious over The Bella Twins at WrestleMania 31. In the years since, she has built a successful career as a writer and mental health advocate.
On the September 8 episode of Monday Night Raw, the mixed tag team match was made official. At the inaugural Wrestlepalooza premium live event on September 20, AJ Lee will team with CM Punk to take on Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch. The full interview with Triple H can be seen on “The Pat McAfee Show.”
