There has been a lot of speculation lately about Brock Lesnar’s opponent at WrestleMania 36 in Tampa. Typically around this time is when leaks start to get out but WWE has kept a lid on things and there are no hints on who Lesnar will face.
The only thing that has been confirmed, via the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, is that Lesnar will not be facing Cain Velasquez or Tyson Fury at WrestleMania. Lesnar has a win over Velasquez so it’s likely that we’ll see a rematch at some point but it doesn’t look like Mania will be the place. Fury has said that he wants a match with Lesnar but it looks like WWE has other plans in place.
Meltzer noted that Lesnar is scheduled for the Royal Rumble pay-per-view. At this time, it is not confirmed if he will be defending the WWE Championship or, perhaps, appearing in the actual Rumble match. WWE has put the champion in the actual Rumble match before but they haven’t done that in years.
Unless WWE has a surprise outsider in mind, candidates to face Lesnar at Mania are the names that are getting big pushes like Drew McIntyre and Aleister Black. Those are two of Paul Heyman’s guys so they are possible opponents for Brock. McIntyre would seem the most likely since he has been groomed to be a top guy but his push was slowed down a bit when he got injured. Things seem to be back on track with him.
In other Royal Rumble news… As of now, the only match confirmed for the Royal Rumble is Becky Lynch defending the Raw Women’s Championship against Asuka. Click here for spoiler news on the likely WWE Universal Championship match for the Royal Rumble.
