Two MAJOR names being considered for WWE Survivor Series special referee role
The upcoming Jinder Mahal vs. Brock Lesnar match at Survivor Series is a non-title match but a champion vs. champion match should be a big deal. Unfortunately, there are still a lot of fans that don’t buy Mahal as a top star so WWE is looking to add something to the match to add intrigue.
As previously noted, John Cena has been discussed as a possibility as the special referee. If Cena is the plan as Mahal’s opponent at WrestleMania then it would make sense to kick off the feud with Cena costing Mahal the match. However, Vince McMahon is considering two other names that are not currently with WWE.
As first reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Vince McMahon is also considering Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock. The question here is whether they would want to do it. The Rock’s schedule will be a factor and it would cost a lot to get him or Austin to do it.
Before any rumors start, it should be noted that Austin will likely never wrestle again and it’s unlikely that we’ll see Rock vs. Lesnar at WrestleMania, even though WWE wanted to do that for WrestleMania 30 in New Orleans. Austin has been adamant about being retired and never wanting to do another match. It’s unclear if we would ever see The Rock in a serious wrestling match again because movie studios don’t want him to risk an injury that would delay production.
