Two stars advance in the WWE Cruiserweight Classic, Kevin Owens praises Brian Kendrick

– The quarterfinals of the WWE Cruiserweight Classic started on Wednesday night on the WWE Network. Two matches took place on the show, Gran Metalik defeated Akira Tozawa and Kota Ibushi defeated Brian Kendrick to advance to the Final Four of the tournament.

Now, Metalik will go on to face the winner of Zack Sabre, Jr. vs. Noam Dar and Ibushi will face the winner of Rich Swann vs. TJ Perkins. Sabre, Jr. vs. Dar and Swann vs. Perkins will take place on next week’s show. WWE will return to Full Sail University on September 14th for semi-finals and finals of the tournament, which will air live on the WWE Network.

– Following his match with Ibushi, Kendrick took to Twitter to thank WWE for the opportunity to wrestle in the tournament. He posted this:

Newly crowned WWE Universal Champion Kevin Owens praised Kendrick via Twitter.
