WWE is now positioning two of their veteran stars as “all-time greats.”
This past Monday night on Raw, the commentators referred to Bayley and Becky Lynch as all-time greats in WWE history and that wasn’t by accident.
Dave Meltzer noted in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that this is obviously coming from Paul Levesque because that is not something they would say on their own. Meltzer wrote in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter: “It notable that the announcers now, and obviously this comes from Levesque because they’d never say this on their own, that Lynch and Bayley are all-time greats in wrestling.”
When Vince McMahon was running creative, he would anoint certain wrestlers. For example, the directive was issued a few years ago to call John Cena “The greatest of all-time” and they are laying the groundwork for Roman Reigns to be positioned as one of, if not the, greatest of all-time with his title reign that is approaching 900 days.
The “all-time great” tag suits Bayley and Lynch, because they are one of the most recognizable names and best in-ring performers in women’s wrestling history and it works for their current storyline with Lynch teaming with Lita and possibly Trish Stratus, two of the greatest female WWE stars ever, against Damage CTRL at the Elimination Chamber PPV.
