Tyrus shared high praise for John Cena as the 17-time World Champion’s retirement match approaches. Speaking on TMZ’s Inside The Ring, Tyrus spoke about Cena’s farewell tour and his contributions to the business.
“Great dude. Wouldn’t have a WrestleMania moment without him. Let me train in his facility, and his trainer, Rob, changed my life forever. I love him, but I really wanted to whoop his ass one time… he deserves to have a retirement tour, and for one, he’s been good for the business. He’s another guy who a lot of people like to blame for their not coming up or whatever. But when you’re the top guy and maintain it for as long as he has, consistently as he has, he’s turned it into an amazing acting career, and he’s at a point in his career where he doesn’t have to do anything at all with wrestling, and the fact that he’s doing it, and he’s not just doing it, he’s putting young guys over, he’s getting guys over”.
Tyrus summed up Cena’s importance to his generation of wrestlers succinctly. “He was our Hogan. Every one of us should tip our hats and thank him, because he put a lot of asses in the seats and put a lot of bread on everybody’s table”.
When asked who Cena’s final opponent should be, Tyrus offered a few legendary names. “If for his final guy? When I think about all his feuds and stuff, I always thought him and Batista had a tremendous feud, and they were so polar opposites. But if I had to say, I would if I had to say anything, I would think it would be I would like to see him in Triple H… you know, there’s a lot of under like him and Edge. Wouldn’t be bad… but I would like him to go out against Brock, the guy who smoked him”.
It should be noted that Triple H has said he can never wrestle again, as he has a heart defibrillator in his chest, and Edge is in AEW. Batista retired in 2019 and claimed he would never wrestle again.
