UFC 227: Daniel Cormier has a backup plan in case his fight with Brock Lesnar doesn’t happen

Daniel Cormier is going to retire in 2019 and he is looking at a huge payday for his final fight. His fight with Brock Lesnar should be one of the highest grossing fights in UFC history but even Cormier knows that nothing is for sure.

At the end of UFC 227, Cormier left the door open for a huge rematch if, for some reason, his fight with Lesnar does not take place. Cormier said, “If there’s any reason Brock Lesnar does not make it to the fight, I would fight Stipe again.”

At this point, there is nothing indicating that Lesnar vs. Cormier will not happen but, as we noted earlier, there is always the possibility that Lesnar will get a better money offer from WWE. If that happens then WWE has the option to keep him as the Universal Champion through SummerSlam and beyond.

Again, all signs point to Lesnar leaving WWE and the fight against Cormier is on but it’s interesting that Cormier left the door open just in case something happened. He could have also been referring to USADA testing. If Lesnar fails a test then he would be suspended again and the fight would be canceled. Hopefully, that does not happen.

Lesnar will defend the WWE Universal Championship against Roman Reigns at SummerSlam. The Raw after SummerSlam is his last scheduled appearance for WWE.
