Stipe Miocic destroyed Mark Hunt at UFC Fight Night 65 and many would agree that the fight went on too long. Hunt, who was visibly tired in round one was then exhausted in round two, three and four. Miocic wanted the fight stopped in earlier rounds, but the tough hearted Hunt wanted to push on even if he wasn’t defending himself properly.
Tom Wright, managing director of UFC Operations for Canada, Australia and New Zealand, commented on the stoppage at the post-fight presser.
“They probably could have stopped it sooner.”
#4 Mark Hunt (10-10-1) 7 KOs, 0 Subs, 3 decision wins in his career and is 2-3-1 in his last six bouts. Hunt is currently riding a two-fight losing streak. Hunt beat Stefan Struve in March of 2013 by third round TKO but then lost to Junior Dos Santos in his next bout at UFC 160 for the UFC Heavyweight Title by third round spinning hook kick. He went to a majority draw with Antonio Silva in December of 2013, but then rebounded against Roy Nelson in September of 2014 by second round knockout. In his next/last bout, he lost to Fabricio Werdum at UFC 180 for the interim title by second round TKO. He is coming off a TKO loss to Stipe Miocic at UFC Fight Night 65.
“In the end, I’m not standing right on top of these two guys. Mark Hunt is as tough as they come and Stipe demonstrated his skills. It is what it is and you can’t change it now.
