On the latest episode of his “Six Feet Under” podcast, The Undertaker addressed the controversial end to his legendary WrestleMania streak, stating that the decision to lose to Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 30 was not his to make. The WWE Hall of Famer explained the circumstances surrounding the decision and what might have happened had he refused.
After his co-host, Michelle McCool, read a fan comment suggesting the streak should have reached 25-0, The Undertaker agreed it would have been a record that “would have lasted forever”. However, he made it clear that the final call was out of his hands. “It’s not, you know, my decision,” he stated.
He contemplated what would have happened if he had refused to go along with the plan to have Lesnar end the streak. “People will ask me all the time, ‘Well, why did you do it?'” he said. “I guess I did have a choice. I didn’t have to do it. And then, and then what happens? And then me and Brock are having to shoot at WrestleMania, and then it’s gonna… it wouldn’t have been good”.
The Undertaker also put the decision in the context of the wrestling business, noting that many wrestlers had helped build him up over the years. “You have to look at this business in a sense of there’s a lot of people that probably didn’t want to put me over to get me into that position, and they did it,” he explained. “And it’s just kind of the way it works. Wasn’t my decision”.
It is well-documented that The Undertaker suffered a severe concussion during the match, and he confirmed that he has very little memory of the historic encounter. When his wife mentioned that he doesn’t remember the match, he replied, “That’s probably the best part, is that I don’t really remember it”.
While the decision to end the streak at 21-1 remains one of the most debated topics among wrestling fans, The Undertaker’s comments clarify that the final call was a business decision made by others. His focus remains on the professional respect of doing what was asked of him in that moment.
