Update on Daniel Bryan’s decision to retire, news on his status for tonight’s RAW

Daniel Bryan mentioned on Twitter that he has decided to retire from active competition. Bryan asked for his release from WWE a few week’s ago, but WWE officials told him that he didn’t have the right to request it.

Bryan reportedly asked for his notice so he could return to the indies but was told no by Vince McMahon.

Bryan was cleared by two different doctors but was not cleared by WWE’s Dr. Joseph Maroon. Bryan went to New York on the Thursday before the Royal Rumble PPV for more tests, according to Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio.

The feeling within WWE is that unless Maroon has cleared Bryan, the retirement is legit and not a swerve for an angle.

Bryan will be explaining more on his decision later tonight on RAW.
